Change a Life cycles to the Wild West
The 2011 Change a Life Cycle event (2 – 7 September) proved to be an adventure of a lifetime – from hot dusty roads to wonderful desert camps, from pain and agony to celebration and ecstasy. The 70 executive cyclists selected to go on the tour travelled across the full expanse of the Namib desert, explored deserted beaches and towering sand dunes, and partied under star-studded skies. There were the customary surprises along the route and a combination of exhaustion and exhilaration strengthened the bonds of long-lasting friendships which have become a key feature of the event.
Route
The 530 km route started in Windhoek on 3 September and headed westwards across the Namib Desert before ending in Walvis Bay on the fourth day. Day One was a hot 121 km, Day Two a gruelling 201 km trek, whilst Day Three saw the cyclists enduring sweltering heat over 111 kms through the Namib Desert. Day Four was just 101 km long, providing a spectacular end to the tour as the cyclists pedalled along a well-groomed salt road with the Atlantic Ocean in view.
Cost
The Change a Life Cycle can only accommodate 70 cyclists and due to its popularity, entry is by invitation only.
The 2011 fee was R27 000 per cyclist and Computershare matched all funds raised from cyclist entry fees. Sponsors’ generous donations funded the costs of the cycle tour which enabled it to become fully self-sufficient for the first time this year, with 100% of the fees and matched funds channelled directly into the Change a Life Trust for recipient projects.

Feedback
We at UTi, and myself personally together with Dirk, consider ourselves very fortunate and privileged to have been involved with the 2011 version of the Change A Life Cycle Tour; it was indeed a life changing experience, so professionally organised, in the company of excellent people in an excellent part of the world. I know you strive to offer your demanding riders a different experience every year, which you no doubt did in 2011; the tour was not only different but certainly was even better than the first tour that I was fortunate to participate in – and that was life changing!! A big well done and a big thank you to both of you and that special support team you lead who just get it done so well no matter the challenge.

Another phenomenal Change a Life Cycle Tour under the belt and another feeling of awe. Every year it gets better and better in different ways but what remains impressive is the change that is evident in the participants themselves. It’s wonderful to ride with old friends and see how the tour has changed and moulded them. And to make new friends. The reputation of the tour itself within the business community and the profile which it has achieved directly as a result of the vision and dedication of the two of you is unsurpassed and it is a great privilege to be part of this legacy.

Thank you again for establishing and running Change a Life. I am so pleased to be part of making a difference in the lives of so many people via the charities we support, and am looking forward to the feedback session. What started as a charity funded by a cycling event has become a community – thanks to your leadership and commitment. Thank you also to Computershare for all you put into the process. Re this year’s cycle – even though it has already been said – it was magnificent & flawless – thank you and well done. I think we will get a 100% return rate for next year. I look forward to being a part of this special family for many years to come.

This was for me the best tour yet and I express my thanks for the efforts you and your team went to, to make this such a special event. The logistics of creating something special out of a very harsh environment cannot be underestimated and your team did You proud in how they brought this together. Part of the amazing experience is how your backup teams supported us and here again it is so easy to overlook this. Well done to them all.

Thanks once again for what was yet another truly unforgettable experience. I keep thinking that you have set the bar so high that it will be impossible for you to maintain let alone exceed the standards that you have set. Yet you do so exponentially each time. The uniqueness of this experience lies in the fact that so many people with disparate backgrounds are united in pursuit of two common goals - their passion for cycling and the great projects that the Change a Life Trust and, indirectly, each participant, supports. The life changing effect operates on these two levels - the participants and the projects.

Thank you for another brilliant tour. As always the Computershare team did an outstanding job and you should be very proud of them. Their attention to the tiniest detail, personal service and intense personal interest in the tour always amazes me. It is something very special. The Wild West Tour was different and is going to quite difficult to top!! Ursula I guess that is your challenge for next year. Thank you for letting me be part of this very special charity – It does change lives!

It is very difficult to put into words once again and thank you and the team for the most magnificent trip and organization. When I had the opportunity to address the people as captain of our group I don’t think people realize how much work and time is put into an event such as this. We were spoilt beyond any expectations and each venue and night superseded the previous one.
The closing night in the desert was unbelievable and not even the weather could put a dampener on it and many of us had the after affects to show. Once again from my side it was an honour and a privilege to be part of the tour as a participant as well as been able to contribute to the sponsorship through Macsteel .

It is hard to believe that another tour is something of the past. Thank you very much for yet another life changing experience. It was simply superb – the route, the scenery, the activities, the accommodation, the attention to detail – all leading to the most amazing camaraderie amongst everyone. I am privileged and proud to be part of the Change a life family.

Thanks again for organising an amazing trip. I am sure you will receive numerous letters thanking you for what is truly a World class event, all of which, would still not do the professionalism of the event justice.

Thank you for extending the invitation to be part of the Change a Life Cycle Challenge. At the time of accepting the “challenge”, I surely had no idea of the impact of this unique cycle event on my life. It definitely got me of the couch and onto the saddle. Apart from the health benefit, I am now longing to be out on the road on my bicycle. I feel privileged to be part of this matchless event and its worthy causes. Congratulations on organising such a successful event. Your attention to every single detail made it a memorable experience and one I will remember for a long time.

A sincere thank-you for a very special Namibian cycling trip. As always you and your team have produced an outstanding event full of interesting and exciting experiences. The attention to detail, different terrain, and incredible camaraderie that continues to grow and will surely keep us all coming back for more. As time goes on we’ve become extremely passionate about the organizations that Change a life supports and I look forward to the feedback session in November. It also amazes me every year how we came together to make a difference in other people’s live’s and have also ended up making such huge changes to our own lifestyles. Congratulations on a wonderful event. You’ve certainly raised the stakes for next year!

A HUGE thank you to and your team for giving me the opportunity to participate in this year's tour! The event was flawlessly and meticulously organised, and it was a real privilege to be able to enjoy the Nambian countryside with all of the logistical support just miraculously taken care of. Every day presented new challenges and fantastic surprises! But I guess the highlight has to be getting to know you and the rest of the cycling team – what a fantastic bunch of people. I have built many new relationships that I will treasure for a very long time. All of this in aid of a really worthwhile cause. So THANK YOU again!

You must be suffering from Post Tour Depression like the rest of us! It was an amazing week and thanks to you and Stan for the opportunity to be part of it.
